Understanding Prop Evaluation Rules
Our editorial compliance guide to choosing funding structures and passing challenge rules.
1. Prop Firm Setup vs. Instant Live Sizing
Proprietary funding is divided into evaluation systems and instant accounts. Under 1-Step or 2-Step evaluations, you trade simulated demo capital while attempting to reach profit splits targets of 8% to 10% within structural daily parameters.
Conversely, instant models skip evaluations entirely. While setups are faster, instant platforms allocate lower starting leverage bounds and profit shares (typically 50%), charging higher setup registration fees.
2. Spotting Hidden Trailing Drawdown Rules
Traders often breach drawdown criteria due to complex trailing mechanisms. While static limits (e.g. FTMO) stay fixed relative to your initial size, trailing limits follow your peak account equity until you clear the primary profit split parameters.
Always query a firm's daily drawdown computation methods. Balance-based reset boundaries are considerably safer for swing traders than equity-based resets, which track open floats during news volatilities.
